Area19 Indoor Dressage Qualifier

Congratulations to the Junior Team who qualified for Hartpury again.

They won convincingly, and Olivia's score of 73.6 was still the top score

of all Novice 25s. Izzie was also 1st in her arena, and Charlotte 3rd,

well done.

Area Dressage at Duchy College 18th Jan 09.

The Winter Dressage was well organised by East Cornwall RC. The start of the day looked pretty grim, frozen hail on the roads etc, but things improved, and even the lake on the outdoor school shrank throughout the day.

Our Juniors, Olivia Thornton, Clemmie Moore, Frankie Parkyn and Izzie Potts WON. There were 6 Junior teams, a number previously unheard of, and Frankie and Clemmie were individual 1st in their arenas, helping towards a team total of 5 points (lowest is best, best possible is 3). Well done them, and it looks like they are off to Hartpury.

Full list of results can be found on the Area19 Website.  www.brcarea19.co.uk

There were 24 Senior teams, and our team of three (Vicky Cook did not make it, as she was unable to get out of rural back of Beaworthy on the day), Marie Ewen, Di Stevens and Tish Shere came a creditable 9th, and the other team, Lyndsy, Judy, Gillian and Marie, a little lower. Marie was individual 4th in her Arena on Winnie, and Di 6th, well done. South Devon teams were, as usual, 1st, 3rd and 6th, shall the rest of Area 19 just not bother to turn up in future? But, even the Senior first team had 6 points, not as good as our Juniors!

Thank you to all who represented the club, for turning up on time, and making my day easy. Ines.

Fun Show Jumping at Duchy College 11th Jan 09.

Two MDRC teams went to Stoke Climsland to take part in the start of the year fun SJ competition.

As the jumping took place in the outdoor school, we were lucky with the weather, at least it stayed dry.

Thank you to all who represented MDRC, and to Jane Gordon, Ken and Sue
Merron, who helped putting up jumps during jumping, and helped putting them

the Area, made a good impression.

Winner of 2008 Points Trophy - Charlotte Handley writes,

2008 was a very busy year for me, we competed at 6 local shows to qualify the ponies for Ponies UK Winter Championships, B.S.P.A. Championship Show, Equifest, Royal London Show and South West Ponies Championship Show and in between all these I managed to study for and sit my GCSE’s by June!

Through the winter I had fortnightly dressage training sessions with Chris Dannon leading up to the Pony Club area dressage and also attended several jumping lessons with Caroline Creighton.

We competed come rain or shine and I think the worst conditions we encountered this year were when we did the North Devon Riding Club’s dressage and show jumping competition held at Witheridge.  The rain was horizontal driven by gusts of what felt like 50mph winds; the jumping had to be abandoned due to the fact that the wings would not (or could not!) stay up right!  Despite the conditions Paddy won the Prelim class with Polly coming second and Polly won the walk/trot test.

By contrast, the sunshine at Hunterswood on the 4th May was almost too much to bear and jackets were off!  Paddy came up trumps again taking Champion in one ring and then Supreme of Show and Polly took two reserve Championships that day also.

Polly had her day in August when she took 1st place at the North Devon Show in the Ridden Coloured class.

In total we took home one Supreme of show, four Championships and three reserve Championships.  This involved Mum taking me up country to compete at Keysoe in Bedfordshire and then on to the East of England Showground at Peterborough, and finally finishing at the David Broome Centre at ChepstowCharlotteHandley.

It can’t be all work and no play though so after my exams the family took a well deserved holiday to Florida although Mum said it’s not that much more relaxing than home!

We have started 2009’s campaign, so far we have four 1st rosettes and two 2nd rosettes but fear not Polly will not be showing so much this year as I hope to take her down the eventing route although Paddy will continue what he loves to do.

Look forward to seeing you all at the shows and good luck!
